Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Primary Series ( 90mins ). Primary Series is the 1st of 6 Series in Ashtanga, known in Sanskrit as Yoga Chikitsa ( Yoga Therapy ). Ashtanga is a very physical and demanding style of Yoga that has a set sequence of postures which are designed to detoxify, lengthen the muscles, build strength, endurance, flexibility and opens the joints of the shoulders and hips while creating an overall balanced body and mind. What separates Ashtanga from other styles of yoga are the fundamentals that are preformed throughout the practice : Ujjayi Breath ( Pranayama ) , Bandhas ( internal energy locks ) Drishti ( focal point) and a rigorous Vinyasa system used to link postures together. Starting w/ the opening sequence of Sun Salutations A&B and standing postures, moving into the seated postures of forward bends, deep twists, arm-balances and finally back-bending, followed by the closing sequence to cool down and Sirasana ( headstand ) to calm the nervous system. Students are encouraged to work to their level of ability omitting vinyasas if needed to help conserve energy as they gradually build strength and stamina to include all vinyasas. There is no music played in this class so the student can learn how to use their breath as their guide

Ashtanga Fusion ( 75mins ). Staying with the fundamentals of Ashtanga, I fuse together postures from all 6 Series that vary from wk. to wk. but always including inversions and arm-balances. Get ready to have some fun while exploring more advanced postures in a non-intimidating way while listening to tunes that will keep you moving! Knowledge of the Vinyasa System will make class more approachable to students new to Ashtanga Yoga. Laughter is always encouraged as is an open mind and heart!

Candlelit yoga- A beautiful mix of meditation, and gentle yoga movement set to a relaxing blend of music. Practiced in a darkened, candlelit setting- sure to enlighten the senses, and lift your spirits! Great for all levels of students.

Open level- A faster paced vinyasa class, with a bit less direction. Challenging and invigorating..... yet modifications may always be used to suit any practice. You will sweat, open, detox, and glow!

Open level restore- Hot and sweaty, then soft and melty. We begin with a vigorous fifty min. vinyasa flow. Set to fun, upbeat music. Move, sweat, breathe, and let go! and then.... totally surrender on bolsters, to restore, renew, and realign the spine, muscles, and mind. Some basic yoga experience is recommended, but all students are certainly welcome!

Open, self practice. (Tuesday through Friday). Door opens at 6:30am and will be locked at 6:45. The studio will be open for a self practice until 8am. Class fee is a suggested $10 donation.

Slow Flow- A gentle, body and mind opening vinyasa flow. with more direction, and a slower pace. Perfect for the beginner student yet challenging enough for any student further along in their practice

Yoga Nidra - Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of inducing a deep physical, emotional and mental relaxation.  This profound technique may be used as a meditation, as stress management and therapy, as an enhancement to learning, and to harmonize the deep unconscious and bring forth inner potential.  Yoga Nidra is suitable and easy for almost everyone.

Nada Yoga -The state of health, according to Yoga Psychology, is the balanced flow of Prana (energy) through all the energy circuits of the body and mind.  The yogis knew how to reestablish the lost harmony of the body and mind by using the power of sound and this system is known as NADA YOGA. The goal of this advanced state of Nada Yoga is to purify and harmonize the body energies and align them with their natural vibration. It is the opening of a high level of awareness where the consciousness becomes conscious of itself.  From this state healing begins in the most natural way. This ancient form of meditation is a deep and delicious method of coping with today's stress level.

Nada and Nidra classes are held one Sunday a month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Fee is $20
